 | Yum. | | I'm a huge cooking fan. I'm a huge food fan. And I'm a huge Sara Moulton fan. So I almost fell over when I saw that not only was Ms. Moulton editing a cookbook, but she was going to be at a booksigning in my town. But I digress. There I got to try a few of the cookies that were in the book, which was nice. As soon as I got home, I made the lemon meringue cookies, which I still make @ least weekly - they're incredibly easy, really really good, and low cal. Does it get any better? Also, I enjoyed reading this cookbook. It was interesting to read about the people who submitted their recipes, as well as the stories behind them. All in all, a very good find. |
| Good Morning America Cut the Calories Cookbook : 120 Delicious Low-Fat, Low-Calorie Recipes from Our Viewers - | | A little Disappointed | | An OK cookbook. There are others I liked much better. All the Weight Watcher cookbooks for example. Most likely I will only cook only a few of the recipes in this cookbook. |
| - Good Morning America Cut the Calories Cookbook : 120 Delicious Low-Fat, Low-Calorie Recipes from Our Viewers | | A very good low fat/cal cookbook | | I love Sara Moulton's Food TV show "Cooking Live." Ms. Moulton has the ability to make even the most difficult sounding recipe appear entirely accessible. That was the entire reason for me buying this cookbook. I've tried several of the recipes in the book and all have been excellent, clearly explained, and easy to do. The Oven Fried Chicken and Andouille Sausage alone is worth the price of the book, though it is virtually impossible to stay within the calorie count. It tastes too good. The recipe says it's for four, but two people will easily polish it off. Not because it doesn't make enough, just because it tastes so darned good that you can't stop yourself. The food does not taste as though it's been defatted. And as an added plus, the book embraces spicy foods, ethnic cuisines, etc. There is a small downside to this book however. This book only contains main course recipes, no sides. Also, and I know that this was an unfair assumption on my part, but I would have liked the fiber also noted in the nutritional tables for each recipe. Ms. Moulton lost a good amount of weight using the Weight Watchers program - something she talked about on her show frequently, and because of that I kind of figured there would have been enough nutritional info for the recipes to figure out what your Winning Points would be. It's a small complaint though, and certainly not worth not buying the over. |
